Rugby World Cup 7s 2022 has come and gone. Below, we look at how each side from North and South America performed. Its important to note the structure of the competition. As a straight knock out bracket, a loss in the opening round (proper) means the team cannot finish above 9th, whereas a win in the opening round guarantees a top 8 finish.
Argentina
Men: Defeated Kenya to enter the Championship Bracket, but fell to eventual runners up New Zealand in the Round of 8. Defeated hosts South Africa and France to finish 5th.
Brazil
Women: Fell to Ireland and sent to the Challenge bracket. Thrashed Columbia before falling to Japan. Defeated Spain to finish 11th.
Canada
Men: Ran through Zimbabwe in the Pre-Round of 16 before falling to France and entering the Challenge bracket. Fell to Uruguay before defeating Wales and Chile to finish 13th.
Women: Defeated China to advance to the Championship bracket. Fell to USA before beating England. Were dismantled by Fiji to finish 10th.
Chile
Men: Entered in the Pre-Round of 16 where they overcame Germany. Were demolished by hosts South Africa in the Round of 16 and were sent to the Challenge bracket. Were demolished again by England, but managed to defeat Scotland before falling to Canada and finishing 14th.
Columbia
Women: Demolished by New Zealand and sent to the Round of 16. Fell to Brazil and South Africa. Fell to to Madagascar while scoring their only 12 points of the tournament and finished last (16th).
Jamaica
Men: Fell to Scotland in the Pre-Round of 16 and were sent to the Bowl bracket. Fell to Tonga, Portugal, and Zimbabwe to finish last (24th).
United States of America
Men: Thrashed by Samoa in the Round of 16 Returned the favor against Wales before falling to Uruguay. Defeated Kenya to finish 11th.
Women: Decimated Poland to advance to the Championship bracket. Narrowly defeated Canada before falling to eventual winners Australia. Well defeated by France in the Bronze Medal game to finish 4th and secure the best finish of any side from the Americas.
Uruguay
Men: Defeated Hong Kong in the Pre-Round of 16. Dismantled by Australia in the Round of 16 and sent to the Challenge bracket. Defeated Canada and the USA before falling to England and finishing 10th.
