After a shock two week unemployment, Scott Lawrence has landed in the Eagles’ nest.
The former Rugby ATL coach will take over the Eagles’ defense. His time in Atlanta saw him develop the top defense of 2021. He’ll spend the year working with the Eagles player pool and developing the defensive system.
For Lawrence, its an intriguing move. A defense first coach, he’ll have every opportunity to excel in the role. Lawrence has been a rising star in the American coaching ranks for years. A role as a prevalent assistant could be the catalyst needed to eventually step into the head coaching role for the Eagles or another Tier 2 nation.
For the Eagles, Lawrence’s success will be vital to the 2022 campaign. With defense at premium in test rugby, he’ll also have his work cut out for him. The Eagles lacked the cohesion on either side of the ball to contain Uruguay last year. They’ll take on Chile in a two-legged series for the Americas 2 bid in Rugby World Cup 2023. the loser of that series will spend next fall playing in the Final Qualification Tournament with the hope of securing the last chance to head to France next fall.
