If you enjoy elimination rugby, you’re day is about to be just as bright as it was before time change.
In their schedule release, Major League Rugby slid in that the Championship Series will expand to a three week affair. Top seeds in each conference will earn a first round bye, while each conference’s second seed will host the third seed in a Conference Semi-Final.
The expanded playoffs come after a season where both conferences featured more than two strong sides. In the East, NOLA missed the playoffs in the final Round, while New England made a late push that ultimately feel short a couple weeks before year’s end. The West saw Austin stay at home despite being in the hunt through Round 17. New England was 3 points short of the third spot on the Eastern ladder, while injury plagued San Diego was still only 9 points off the third spot in the West.
