With the Americas Pacific Challenge 9 days away, USA Rugby has named its 29 player squad.
Several names on the list may be familiar. 18 named members of the squad are affiliated with Major League Rugby sides, including 2021 first overall draft pick Eric Naposki. Other named members are currently playing at university level or with the USA Rugby academy, as well as one capped Sevens player.
The announcement came with one surprise. Former USA Eagles head coach Mike Tolkin will manage the side, fresh off his work with the Inaugural Championship of Premier Rugby Sevens.
While an appearance for the Selects side does not constitute a formal ‘cap’, it does lock in USA Rugby commitment going forward. Expect to see all healthy players on the field for that purpose.
The APC will see the USA Selects take on the Argentina XV, Brazil A, and Chile A over the course of 8 days. The entirety of the tournament will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay.
