With a clear path to Rugby World Cup qualification on the line and a 13 point deficit to overcome, Gary Gold announced significant changes to his game day squad.
While the front line rotates, all 13 forwards return. The biggest note is that Cam Dolan is fit. His 38th minute departure for an HIA last weekend, and subsequent inability to return, was the turning point that shifted the momentum towards the Maple Leafs. Expect him to take over the line out that was dominant before his exit.
The back line sees significantly more changes. De Haas, Campbell, and Dyer retain their numbers, but the rest is reshuffled. Ryan Matyas steps in on the left wing in place of Mika Kruse. Kruse was tactically replaced a quarter of the way through last week’s loss. Tavite Lopeti enters the starting lineup wearing the 13 and pushing Marcel Brache to fullback. The most important change is AJ MacGinty’s return to the starting flyhalf spot after injuries and travel issues.
The forward bench remains the same. Nate Augspurger keeps his 21 jersey on the bench. Will Magie, who started last week in place of MacGinty, shifts to the 22. Old Glory DC man Mike Dabulas is in line for his first cap in the 23.
